Knowingly or unknowingly we often treat life as a multiple choice question. For instance when a child is born he/she is given a name accompanied with one surname, and that becomes the child’s identity. Have you ever wondered why a person can’t have more than one surname? When that child grows up, the child is admitted to a school with a particular school uniform. Have you ever asked yourself why you can’t go to seven different schools on seven different days of the week? Once that child passes the tenth standard, he/she has to opt for only one stream of education- science, arts or commerce. Why is it not possible to opt for more than one of these streams or maybe a completely different stream? And this goes on. To simplify it to you all, let us consider two MCQs- first, what is 2+2? Your options are- 1,2,3,4. Now, definitely the answer is the fourth option 4. Second question- which of the following is your favourite colour? Options include- all the colours in the world. You no more have to stick to only one answer because you can have multiple favourite colours. What we often do is that we treat life as the first MCQ and not the second. So what we will try and do is find the root of the problem and try and come up with a solution. A huge proportion of the problem is the rules. Now rules can be divided into two types- necessary and unnecessary rules. This problem originates from unnecessary rules. One of the unnecessary rules I want to lay stress on is the school syllabus. Why is it that every student in a class must study the same subject, consisting of the same topics , which further consists of the same subtopics, and moreover from the same set of books; irrespective of the student’s own interests. It’s rather ironical that in such a diverse country like India, its educational system is rather monotonous. And this is where the problem begins. It is implanted in our brains from the very beginning that we must do things a certain way, which is improper. The proper method is to discover it yourself. We are taught that we must touch our elder’s feet to showcase respect. What if someone disagrees with this practice? Just like I’m no one to demand respect from you, similarly with all due respect, you are no one to demand respect from me. Just like I don’t expect anyone to ever touch my feet, similarly no one should expect me to touch theirs. In today’s day and age where intolerance is ever so rising, a liberal minded thinking and showcasing of those thoughts is very essential. To construct a healthy society being opinionative and at the same time respecting other’s opinions is important. The way our society works presently, it only leads to increased conservative thinking whereas we should be promoting liberal thinking. Not being able to think open mindedly and out of the box drives a society down. A society should work towards broadening their thinking capacity in all aspects of life. And this is the solution to nearly all possible forms of problem in one’s life. Problems such as getting poor grades, corruption, violence against women, etc, can all be tackled with the right mentality because if your mind is at the right place, you have taken the first and final step towards achieving a solution. Because the right mind, is the solution.
THE CONCLUSION: THERE CAN BE MORE THAN ONE CORRECT ANSWER TO A MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTION. IT JUST DEPENDS ON HOW YOU PERCIEVE THE QUESTION.
